The Lumberjack Grilled Cheese: The Cooking with Chef Jim Series

Grilled Cheese…Lunch, late-night snack, or a quick meal, it’s a fan favourite. It’s also one of Chef Jim Cassidy’s favourite meals to prepare (and enjoy).

One of his go-to recipes is as simple as it is delicious. It’s called the Lumberjack! Let’s walk through the recipe.

Ingredients: 

  • Bread – 2 Slices
  • Cheese – 1 Cup
  • Bacon – 4 Strips
  • Apple – 1 Whole
  • 100% Natural Maple Syrup – 2 Tablespoons
  • Butter – 1 Tablespoon

Instructions:

Step 1:

Heat your pan to medium heat.

Step 2:

Once hot, add your cut bacon to the pan/cooking top. Flip periodically as needed.

Step 3:

Skin and slice your apple into thin pieces. Set aside for a few minutes.

Step 4:

Cut two large slices of bread, and butter them generously. Once buttered, place it on the cooking surface beside the bacon.

Step 5:

Slice or shred your cheese and add it on top of your bread. Continue to layer on your apple slices and cooked bacon.

Step 6:

Once your cheese, bacon, and apple slices are on, pour maple syrup onto your sandwich and top with the final piece of buttered bread.

Step 7:

Monitor and flip periodically as needed. If your cheese is not melting as quickly as you need, cover the sandwich with a heat-friendly metal bowl or cooking cover. This will help speed up the melting process.

Step 8:

You’re ready! Remove the sandwich from the cooking surface and cut it in half.
